| Details: | BestBuy extended warranty: BestBuy stores offer their own "extended warranty" with all electronics purchases. It costs a little more to add it to your purchase price, however I actually found it may be worth it. Say you purchase a CD player from a BestBuy store along with a BestBuy extended warranty. Say you drop or damage the CD player a few years later. Bring it back to BestBuy and they will let you exchange it for a brand new model. My company purchased a Sony portable CD player 2 years ago for $75 with extended warranty, and it finally died last week. Even if it still worked, its value would be well under $20 because it was so old. We brought it into BestBuy and walked out with a brand new model Sony portable CD player currently priced at over $75. You can only exchange an item that is currently priced at equal or less than the price you originally paid for the item. For example, if you paid $200 for a digital camera a year ago, today that same camera might be worth $150 or less because electronics get cheaper over time. If it breaks, bring it back and they will give you a brand new digital camera that is priced at $200 today. The real benefit of this deal is not that you can return or exchange something that's broken, it's that your returned item retains the same value as the day you purchased it, even if it breaks, and even a year later when its purchase price drops. Comments. This deal is not for everyone, so ask your local BestBuy store for details on this warranty. Note that bestbuy has had numerous complains and even law suits about their extended warranty in the past, but I think they've cleaned up their act quite a bit. I would not recommend an extended warranty on any bestbuy item that cannot be easily brought back into the store and exchanged, such as a big screen TV. |
