This is a great deal for someone with a HDTV, a collection of DVDs, and is not ready for the Blu-Ray investment. Sony DVP-NS710H/B DVD Player for $30 with free shipping. It uses interpolation (guesswork) to fill in pixels, up-converting standard DVD (480p) up to HDTV resolution (1080p). It does not produce the quality of high-definition and Blu-Ray, but will improve the video quality of standard DVDs a little bit, and may extend the lifespan of your DVD collection until Blu-Ray players and Blu-Ray discs come down in price more.

Most other stores sell this up-convert DVD player for around $50. This deal likely expires sometime tonight.

eHarmony.com - free communications through August 1
From today through August 1, communicating with your eHarmony matches are free. Some things to keep in mind about this promotion:
- They will not show photos of your matches unless you subscribe.
- Be prepared to spend an hour or so, answering their questionaire and filling out your profile.
- eHarmony works differently than most other dating sites. Only a handful of matches are delivered each day, and you have the option to get to know them better (anonymously) through their guided communications. If no good matches are delivered, you must wait for the next day's match deliveries.
In comparison, deals on other dating sites:
- 20% off of Match.com. Match is one of the oldest and most established dating sites. We have heard numerous stories of successful relationships which started at Match.com, more than any other dating site.
- OKCupid is free. Not many people use it, but there are enough people making it worth checking out. They make the site a little fun, with comparing your quiz and relationship tests with others to help create matches.
- PlentyOfFish is free, but we advise against this site for adults looking for a relationship; it appears to be more suitable for attention-seekers. According to blog posts and our own interviews with users of the site, POF works similar to Myspace, where thousands of people can see your profile and pictures with no compatible matching mechanism in place, so the predominantly user-regulated site encourages brief messages & responses (not too unsimilar from a Twitter status message) rather than dates. There are some blog posts all over the Internet, and we spoke to a user who posted a complaint to their message boards who later learned the message was deleted without explanation. It is also important to note the company is based out of Canada, which has different laws which regulate fair business practices than US-based businesses. PlentyOfFish also hides their own business's contact information, so no telephone, email, and mailing addresses are available making us wonder how legitimate of a business they really are. There are lots of red flags for us, which is why we suggest people do some of their own research before posting any personal information there.
- JDate. Posting a profile and instant messaging with matches are free, but emails require subscribing. Originally meant for Jewish singles to meet, Jdate also caters to the demographic of people looking dates with professionals. Considering how few people use this site compared to the others, their monthly fee seems a bit steep.

A few website available with huge discounts for local services, but each only available for one day and worth checking out each day.

Deals vary for each city, and range from oil changes to flowers, bike rentals, tours, gym memberships, yoga, local restaurants, helicopter flying lessons, etc.

If you see a great deal on one of these sites, grab it because their weekday deals usually expire at 11:59pm local time. Some weekend deals expire on Sunday 11:59pm. Most let you to redeem the deal some time in the future. For example, if you find a deal for a $5 car wash, you can buy today and wait to redeem it when your car is dirty, before the expiration date. Most certificates can be purchased either for you or as a gift, but the name on the certificate must match the person redeeming it.

Be sure to read the details of each deal, since some have certain requirements. For example, some certificates must be redeemed by scheduling an appointment.

Asus VW266H 25.5" LCD Computer Monitor with built-in speakers, 2ms response time, DVI/HDMI inputs, and 3 year warranty for $259 and a $30 Visa Prepaid Card is available by mail-in rebate. Most other stores sell it for around $300.

Please note, this is not $229 after rebate as Amazon.com says, because you must actually spend the $30 on the Visa Card within a specific timeframe, rather than getting a check that you can deposit back into your account.

Costco.com - Vizio 37" LED-edgelit LCD 1080p HDTV for $600
Vizio (M370NV) 37-inch LED-edgelit LCD 1080p HDTV for $600 with free shipping. Most other stores sell it for around $700. Costco membership is required to get the deal, otherwise the price goes up by 5%. Costco membership costs $50 for 1 year.

Unlike most HDTVs which include a 1 year warranty, this one comes with 2 years. Electronics purchases can be returned to any Costco store within 90 days.

LED-edgelit is better than a regular LCD because the TV can shut off regions of the screen to produce deeper blacks. LED-backlit can shut off more areas of the screen for even deeper blacks and thus an even better picture, but is a little more expensive than LED-edgelit.

Hard Drive Prices Falling: Hard disk drive prices continue to drop this summer, with many recent and future deals around 5 to 8 cents per GB. For example, today a 1TB 5400rpm drive was $55, and tomorrow a 750GB 7200rpm drive will be $48. Solid State Drives are also dropping to around $2 per GB, which is a big drop from $3/GB last year.

iPhone 4 Antenna Problem Will Likely Be an Issue For a While: Apple recently acknowledged the antenna problem on the iPhone 4. They say any phone, not just an iPhone 4, will change its reception depending on how you hold it. A soon-to-be-released software patch will fix how the phone reports the number of reception bars available. They did, however, acknowledge the software will not fix any drop in reception caused by holding the phone in a certain way, like in the palm of your left hand (covering the lower-left side of the phone).

Remember you have 30-days from purchase to return the iPhone 4 if you want to.

If you decide to keep the iPhone 4, beware of the possible reception issue which could be a problem for your future calls and data service, even after Apple releases a software fix.

iPhone lovers can still get an iPhone 3GS which works very well, has no antenna problem, and is one of the best phones on the market.

Also keep in mind, AT&T's 3G data service works poorly in some densely populated metro areas. The 3G data is almost unusable due to overwhelming demand on their network in certain neighborhoods of Boston, San Francisco, and New York City.

For another popular phone that does not use AT&T's network and does not have antenna problems, check out Sprint's HTC EVO.

Here's a little comparison between the EVO and iPhone 4, but keep in mind the best phone is not the one with the best features, design, apps, and commercials. The best phone is the best phone for you. Our advice is try the iPhone 4 and the EVO, supposedly the two best new phones on the market today. Try others as well, such as those with cheaper service plans. If you love the iPhone but don't want antenna/reception problems, the iPhone 3GS is still available for sale.
