It does not have battery operated noise cancelling feature that some less expensive headphones have, but they isolate the sound so well, noise-cancelling is not a feature needed on these. Since they are very bulky, these headphones are designed for use mainly while sitting, definitely not while walking. They do work very well on airplanes and busses, if you have a bag to store them in. They can fit inside a laptop bag or carry-on bag (folded flat or tucked), and they comfortably isolate sound better than most other headphones we tried on a plane.
